About this work...
This is one of many Hartmann symphonies based on earlier material that was lost during the years of World War II, when Hartmann was a member of the anti-Nazi resistance and was in hiding in the underground. It was based on surviving sketches of the "Symphonie 'L'ouvre'", a work based on Emile Zola's novel of that name....
