Valse impromptu

Franz Liszt

Valse impromptu in Ab major

S. 213

About this work

This is a light and effective salon piece in the style of Chopin's earlier Valses, such as Opus 18. Like its models, it is a dance suite that alternates several separate Valses in a continuous texture, here separated by cadenzas. At one time, this was a popular encore, but is now rarely programmed.
