Thomas Dausgaard: Strauss & Scriabin

Thomas Dausgaard: Strauss & Scriabin

Exclusive Audio Commentary

About this playlist

Richard Strauss's "Also sprach Zarathustra" and Scriabin's "Poem of Ecstasy" are both works of enormous scale, both musically and philosophically. While Strauss's tone poem is directly inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical novel of the same, Scriabin's 'poem' deals with "his soul in the orgy of love, the realization of a fantastical dream, and the glory of his own art."

Big ideas then, and big music to go with it, handled expertly by Thomas Dausgaard and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in this new recording. Thomas spoke exclusively to Primephonic about both composers – their philosophies and music – and how he brings these epic works to life.
