Manfred Honeck: Favorites

About this playlist

In this selection for Primephonic, I’ve chosen two sets of pieces: one that I hope will inspire, and one that inspired me. In the first set, which is recordings with my dear musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Eroica track might inspire you to think about Beethoven's supreme and unprecedented inventiveness when he wrote this work, as well as heroes and heroines in your own life, and the ways that we all search for courage and meaning. In the second set, I could not help but include Mozart's Coronation Mass — I played this album so much as a child that I literally broke it. It continues to inspire me to this day.
