Noah Bendix-Balgley: Folk Inspirations

About this playlist

I have always loved folk music from around the world. Not long after I began to play the violin, I starting learning traditional klezmer music. The infectious energy and heartfelt soulfulness of the folk music from Eastern Europe continue to inspire me. Today with my multi-genre group Philharmonix, I explore the connections between these folk traditions and classical compositions. This playlist features some of my favorite performances by virtuosos of the Hungarian, Romanian and klezmer folk traditions, as well as classical works by composers such as Bartok, Brahms, Grieg, and Mahler that were influenced by folk music.
