Italy has an extraordinarily rich musical history, and music takes pride of place as a national cultural touchstone, along with food and fashion! Of course, opera is the most famous example but Italians have long been pioneers in every style: from the medieval Trecento period, through the renaissance and baroque, right up to cutting edge contemporary music.
