The Piano

The Piano

About this playlist

A tinkly upright or a royal grand, the piano has long proved its reputation as one of the world's most popular instruments, making its way to all sorts of music genres. The instrument’s name comes from the Italian "pianoforte", which literally means "soft" and "loud”, reflecting its versatile nature. Its predecessor, the fortepiano, was invented in the 1700s, when Bartolomeo Christofori introduced his first “harpsichord with hammers” and replaced the string plucking mechanism with a hammer action. Thanks, Bartolomeo!
