About this playlist
Tchaikovsky is arguably most famous for his well-loved ballets, but his catalogue includes a wealth of chamber and symphonic music, songs and solo piano collections, as well as his renowned piano and violin concertos. An international sensation in his own lifetime, Tchaikovsky was known throughout Europe and the United States as a conductor of distinction. The patronage of Nadezhda von Meck allowed him to devote 13 years of his life solely to composition, and the 1812 Overture, Sleeping Beauty, and Symphony No. 5 all date from this period.
