Japan: Landmarks

About this playlist

Japan has many fascinating and ancient musical traditions of it own, and was first exposed to western classical music in the late 19th century, at which point a few composers began to combine the language of their native music with that of the west. The most influential at that time was Kosaku Yamada, who studied in Berlin and founded the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, but a long line of brilliant composers of different strands have followed ever since.
