About this playlist
Hector Berlioz was a self taught maverick, and despite being an oddball in many ways, his music is hugely influential, grand, audacious, and lush. But he didn't just innovate in his compositions. Berlioz is also hugely respected today as an authority on orchestration (his Treatise on Instrumentation is still considered one of the key texts on the subject), and he's credited with defining the role of a modern orchestral conductor.
