About this playlist
When a young Johannes Brahms met first Robert and Clara Schumann – both leading Romantic musicians and composers – none of them knew that their lives were about to change forever. Robert was so impressed by Brahms’s talent that he went to great lengths to support him, and was even inspired to write a public essay endorsing him, but very soon after tragedy intervened. Brahms’s relationship with Clara on the other hand is one of the most fascinating and heart-rending in history.
What exactly happened between these three? How does their music fit in to the Romantic movement of the nineteenth century, and what is Romantic music all about? Episode 3 of Classical Encounters has the answers and more, only on Primephonic.
