About this playlist
Discouraged from pursuing a career in music by his family, Georg Philipp Telemann composed in secret and studied law at the University of Leipzig before following his heart, and working as an organist in various German cities. He eventually rose to the top of musical society in Hamburg, taking the position of music director of the city's five largest churches. Telemann composed prolifically for vocal and instrumental ensembles, as well as producing some stellar solo instrumental works and concertos.
