About this playlist

Francesco Landini was by far the most prolific known composer of the Trecento – a lively period of artistic activity in late medieval Italy. He mostly wrote 'ballata' – a genre derived from folk traditions that appealed to the rich mercantile class of 14th century Florence – a city-state with no central court.
