Bernart de Ventadorn was perhaps the most famous medieval troubadour. Far from the wandering musicians people often think them to be, troubadours were noble poet-composers employed by the court. Their songs covered many topics, from knighthood and chivalry to the joys of feudal life, but the most prized by far was the 'canso' – a love song.
