About this playlist

In chemistry, the octet rule defines a group of eight electrons occupying a single shell in an atom, and in music it is pretty much the same...but with musicians! An octet often consists of a string ensemble, but you can encounter other groups of eight as you'll find here. Schubert's Octet from 1824 inspired many other octets for the same instrumentation of winds and strings.
