American Composers

About this playlist

American classical music is more than just a reflection of the indigenous and folk music that already existed – they are in its DNA, perhaps more than any other country. This gives a lot of early American music distinctive characteristics: energetic, syncopated rhythms; an instantly recognisable, open tonality; sweeping, expansive melodies. Today of course the styles are much more diverse, but there's still an undeniable link between the USA's popular and classical music.
