Sakari Oramo is the Chief Conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He is also Principal Conductor of the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and the West Coast Kokkola Opera. He has been the Music director City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra between 1998 and 2008. He is currently a regular guest conductor at the NDR Sinfonieorchester, Wiener Philharmoniker and Staatskapelle Dresden.
He recently did a tour of Spain with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a performance with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlina subscription week with the New York Philharmonic and a tour of Switzerland with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He currently serves at the honorary conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra after a decade as their chief conductor.
The 2013/2014 season featured concerts with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra which focused on British music, including works such as Britten’s Violin Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No.1. Last season’s highlights with the BBC Symphony Orchestra featured a highly acclaimed performance at the Aldeburgh Festival and a trilogy of violin concerto UK premieres: Dusapin, Sheng and Salonen. During the summer of 2014 he conducted several Proms performances with the orchestra, including the Last Night at the Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as showcasing his talents as a violinist when he gave a performance of Prokofiev’s Sonata for two violins with Janine Jansen as part of the 2014 BBC Proms Chamber Music series.
