Though he almost never appeared on-stage, Peter Dawson was one of the most popular singers of his era and one of the early opera television and recording stars. Over his 50-plus-year association with HMV, he sold more than 25 million records of his approximately 3,000 records. As with the majority of such artists, his repertoire was balanced between popular art song and the classical repertoire, an engaging personality and expressive gifts enhancing his two-octave range and fine technique.
