Lucas Debargue

• Born 1990

French pianist Lucas Debargue began studying music at age 11, though he stopped taking piano lessons at 15 and joined a rock band. At 17, he moved to Paris to study at Diderot University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He returned to playing the piano in 2010 after appearing at the Fête de la Musique Festival in Compiègne, and he resumed music studies at age 20 with Rena Shereshevskaya. In 2015, he performed at the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition, finishing in fourth place, and he received the Moscow Music Critics' Award. Well versed in the standard keyboard repertoire, Debargue has seemed to specialize in music by less familiar composers, including Medtner and Roslavets. Since 2016, Debargue has recorded exclusively for Sony Classical.
