Scottish pianist Iain Burnside is at the same time a quintessential pianist and an award-winning broadcaster, whom BBC Music Magazine have described as 'pretty much ideal'. Burnside specialises in the song repertoire, working with such esteemed vocalists as Roderick Williams, Matthew Rose and Sarah Connolly, with an eclectic repertoire ranging fromSchoenberg to Schubert and from Copland to Medtner. He has also explored in great depth the core English song repertoire ofBritten, Finzi, Parry, Vaughan Williams, Butterworth and Ireland.
Burnside is an occasional presenter of BBC Radio 3, which led him to winning a Sony Radio Award for his weekly song-oriented programme called Voices.
Burnside has also written numerous plays. He has written a number of individual theatre pieces for the Guildhall School of Music and drama. His play, A Soldier and a Maker, based on the life of the composer Ivor Gurney, was performed at the Barbican and at the Cheltenham Festival and was broadcast as part of BBC's World War One season.
