Dvorák/Elgar Cello Concertos

Jacqueline du Pré/Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Daniel Barenboim/London Symphony Orchestra/Sir John Barbirolli

Editor's Choice

Tragically struck down by multiple sclerosis while still in her twenties, the British cellist Jacqueline du Pré was a unique artist whose incandescent tone, impassioned performances and larger-than-life musical conceptions captured listeners’ hearts during her lifetime – and continue to do so more than 30 years after her untimely death. Her playing is fortunately preserved in her many recordings, as well as in the tribute films of her made by Christopher Nupen. Among the former are a number of concertos conducted by her husband, Daniel Barenboim, notably the Dvorák, and the celebrated recording of her Elgar conducted by Sir John Barbirolli. read more
