Destination Rachmaninov: Departure

Destination Rachmaninov: Departure

Daniil Trifonov

Editor's Choice

Enigmatic Russian pianist Daniil Trifinov inhabits a rare sphere of artistry that has drawn immense praise from critics and fans alike. Born in Russian to a musical family, Trifinov made his concerto debut at the age of eight, famously losing one of his milk teeth in the process. His 2018 recording of Rachmaninov works pairs the well-known second concerto with the under-performed fourth, both accompanied deftly by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The concertos are accompanied by a wonderful curiosity in the form of Rachmaninov's arrangement for piano of Bach's third solo violin partita. With a solo work and two marvellous concerto interpretations, this album is a must for any piano fan. read more
