Mozart: The Great Piano Concertos, Vol.1

Alfred Brendel

Editor's Choice

The late Neville Marriner’s name is synonymous with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the renowned chamber orchestra he founded in 1958. A violinist by training, Marriner studied at London’s Royal College of Music and performed as a member of the London Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia before founding the now-famous ensemble at its namesake church in Trafalgar Square. Initially leading from his position as first violinist, Marriner expanded into conducting from the rostrum and become one of the most respected conductors of his day. This series of Mozart concertos with the legendary Alfred Brendel at the piano was recorded during the 1970s and is typical of the high standards Marriner set for himself and his carefully-chosen instrumental colleagues. read more
